IAB UK Creator Qualification

The UK’s first industry-backed creator qualification programme has been officially launched by IAB UK, targeting content creators, influencers and digital talent, in a move that marks a new era of professionalism in the influencer marketing industry. The initiative aims to enhance transparency, advertising compliance and trust between creators, brands and audiences.

Backed by key advertising bodies like ISBA and the Advertising Association, the qualification comes as creator partnerships grow in importance to digital marketing strategies globally. Research by IAB UK shows that 84% of brands and agencies expect to increase investment in creator partnerships in 2026.

Why is IAB UK Creator Qualification Important

The creator economy is booming and brands are increasingly using influencers on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and other social platforms. But so are concerns around advertising disclosure, misleading promotions and vague sponsorship labels.

The new IAB UK Creator Qualification aims to solve these issues by educating creators on:

  • Advertising regulations
  • Disclosure best practices
  • Platform policies
  • Campaign planning and measurement
  • Contracts and professional standards
  • Long-term creator career development

The 90-minute training program is hosted by creator and broadcaster Riyadh Khalaf and forms part of the European Advertising Standards Alliance (EASA) AdEthics program.

Once they have completed the course, creators receive an official qualification that certifies their knowledge of responsible influencer marketing practices.

Brands want more pro influencers

The launch is indicative of a growing demand for professionalism in the influencer space. Brands are increasingly looking for creators who understand advertising rules and can safely represent products without regulatory risks.

Rob Newman, Director of Public Affairs at ISBA, said the qualification gives advertisers greater confidence in choosing influencer partners while improving campaign transparency and effectiveness.

The program also comes as consumer trust becomes more important in creator marketing. Research cited by IAB UK shows that 80% of consumers prefer influencers who clearly disclose sponsored content.

Creator Marketing Is Becoming a Core Media Channel

The rise of creator-led advertising is transforming digital marketing globally. Industry reports say creator marketing has become a staple, no longer an experimental channel but an integral part of media strategy.

The creator economy generated $37bn in spend last year and is expected to generate $44bn in 2026 as brands develop long-term partnerships with creators.

Plus social media advertising still accounts for the lion’s share of digital ad spend, and platforms are leaning more into creator-led content and commerce integrations.

What Creators Will Learn

According to the official qualification platform, the course includes nine modules that seek to prepare creators to work professionally and responsibly in the advertising ecosystem.

The key learning outcomes are:

  • When content is considered advertising
  • How to label sponsored posts correctly
  • How to build better relationships with brands
  • How to navigate platform advertising policies
  • How to protect your audience’s trust
  • How to develop sustainable careers as a creator

The qualification is currently available online and costs £50 to access the course and assessment.

The future of influencer marketing

The launch of the IAB UK Creator Qualification is part of a broader trend around regulation, education and accountability in the creator economy.

As influencer marketing matures, creators who understand compliance and transparency may have a competitive advantage when working with global brands. Industry experts also believe that education programs like this one may become a common practice in the future creator ecosystem.

The message for brands, agencies and creators is clear: trust and professionalism are fast becoming the new currency of influencer marketing.
